"Mineral make-up is all the rage these days, but a number of distinctions should be made with respect to the term 'mineral' because when comparing mineral cosmetics from different brands, it becomes clear that not all mineral make-up is the same.
Although many creamy mineral make-up products may have a base of mineral pigments, (rather than synthetic dyes) they can still contain paraffins, conventional emulsifiers and synthetic preservatives. Likewise, conventional mineral make-up with a powder-base, designed to be rubbed into the skin, may provide high coverage but these cosmetics often contain large amounts of bismuth oxychloride as a carrier. This substance is known to cause skin reactions and irritation when the powder is massaged into the skin, and so for many people these products are not at all skin-friendly. It is important that these ranges are not compared with Dr.Hauschka's make-up products, which are created from an entirely different concept.
In addition to 100% pure mineral pigments, Dr.Hauschka's make-up contains an array of nourishing and moisturising substances that care for the skin, such as plant oils, including Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis), Macadamia oil (Macadamia ternifolia) and Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii). Our products also include caring medicinal herb extracts, such as Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis Vulneraria), Carrot (Daucus carota) and Tea (Camellia sinensis) that are known to calm and strengthen skin. Even our face powders are formulated with these kinds of medicinal herb extracts and natural oils to ensure that they offer supreme care as well as exceptional coverage. This approach to creating colour cosmetics results in an enhanced composition that is both beautiful to apply and wear.
Dr.Hauschka has been creating colour cosmetics with 100% pure mineral pigments for over a decade. As a result, we have extraordinary experience for selecting the best quality pigments and other natural ingredients that result in incomparable make-up products, developed to perform and care simultaneously. Most importantly, each product is created in such a way that it won't clog the pores, allowing your skin to breathe all day beneath the protective mineral make-up barrier. The high-quality mineral pigments we use are pure and because they are not water-soluble or nanonised, they cannot penetrate the skin into your body; instead they are simply washed away during cleansing.
Like the mineral pigments, the Titanium Dioxide used in Dr.Hauschka's make-up cannot be absorbed into your body as it has not been ground down to nanoparticles. This also applies to our Talc powder - a natural aqueous magnesium silicate (soapstone). It originates from pieces of rock containing Talc and, due to its neutral state, is the most common powder base used in the manufacture of colour cosmetics. Powder containing Talc also has excellent 'slippage' qualities, allowing it to be transferred and distributed across the skin evenly. This is particularly relevant, for example, with Translucent Face Powder Compact, which is applied to the skin using the powder puff. The Talc used in Dr.Hauschka products is mixed with oil and so it won't dissolve in water. This creates particles too large to penetrate the skin and the powder instead remains on the skin's surface, won't clog pores and can be easily removed during make-up removal at the end of the day."
